Up and Down

So I managed to get the wall climbing and ceiling sticking work. Did some (ugly) physics hacks though.

It bugged me, and I decided to do some research on GameMaker’s physics engine. Lo and behold these heated forum posts.

Forum recap:

  • Newbie wanted to implement physics in game.
  • Experts said his understanding of GM’s physics is flawed.
  • Newbie still didn’t get it.
  • Experts trying to explain it to him.

My main takeaways are:

  • Do not mix regular GM functions with physics (darn!).
  • Do not modify object’s physics variables directly (darn!).
  • Use force to set physics object’s motion (darn!).
  • These

    posts
    about physics in GM.

So I managed to do everything wrong. Time to rethink about the bot’s movements.
