So I managed to get the wall climbing and ceiling sticking work. Did some (ugly) physics hacks though.
It bugged me, and I decided to do some research on GameMaker’s physics engine. Lo and behold these heated forum posts.
Forum recap:
- Newbie wanted to implement physics in game.
- Experts said his understanding of GM’s physics is flawed.
- Newbie still didn’t get it.
- Experts trying to explain it to him.
My main takeaways are:
- Do not mix regular GM functions with physics (darn!).
- Do not modify object’s physics variables directly (darn!).
- Use force to set physics object’s motion (darn!).
- These

about physics in GM.
So I managed to do everything wrong. Time to rethink about the bot’s movements.
